For those who aren’t too familiar with SEO strategy, anchor text is known as the visible text that is displayed when you choose to hyperlink a specific website or document.  The anchor text takes the place of any URL you would be linking to in order to present a cleaner, more strategic way of incorporating links into your content.  Google’s algorithm then crawls each website you’re linking to in order to get a sense of what type of content is being displayed.

For example, a link which has the anchor text Best Project Management Software  sends you to http://project-management-software.findthebest.com/ which shows the search engine crawlers like Google, Yahoo and Bing that this particular website is a comparison engine and will subsequently show up in the search results of those individuals looking to compare products and services online.  Though anchor text is a relatively simple process, there are a couple tips that could help optimize your keyword searches; therefore, increasing the probability of showing up as one of the top search results.

Utilizing Site Context

One of the important aspects to note regarding search engine crawlers is that the contextual layout of your website plays a significant role in determining your overall rank.  This means that when search engine algorithms crawl your site they not only pick up the links but they also check the sites which those links lead to in order to verify how credible the link really is.  So, if you’re receiving a ton of backlinks to your blog about customer relationship management software from a website that only writes about the top dritbikes on the market, your links will generally not have too much effect on your page rank.  The inverse logic also holds true, meaning that if you do receive a backlink that is relevant to your site, your page rank will see a positive change.  The underlying principal is quality, not quantity!

Partial Linking Strategy

When building a website’s SEO partial linking is usually disregarded by many people.   Many people simply don’t know what partial linking is.  A recent study conducted by the reputable SEO company, SEOmoz, found that search queries that were partial matches were 47% more effective than direct matches.  An example of partial linking within anchor text would be, “TK makes the best cheeseburgers” when linking the keywords TK Burger.  This strategy tends to be a bit more user-friendly and helps to create more detailed content.

Hopefully these tips can help improve your SEO and make your website a go-to destination for the algorithmic crawlers of the Internet.
