Create a Professional Profile and Get Endorsements with Path.to

Path.to is a place where you can create a professional personal profile and get endorsements based on your skills. You can also endorse others when you have “first-hand knowledge of their ability to perform the skill.” Path.to has an endorsement algorithm that they use to identify who is the most skilled in each industry and you can view those people on the Leaderboard.

If you’re just looking for people to connect with, you can search within the directory. When viewing someone’s professional profile, you can add them as a contact or request an endorsement from them. Not only is this great for proving your skills, but it could be instrumental in landing a job or freelance work.

Interact with Other Professionals on Path.to.

To get started, you can sign in with either your Facebook or Google account. Whichever account you choose to sign up with, that will be the profile used to import employment and education data from. However, if you want to import from another account (Facebook, Google, LinkedIn) once signed in you can do so.

Once inside your account, there are only 3 steps needed to get started: upload a photo, customize your profile, and add your skills. Since some of this will be filled in from your imported profile, you’ll just need to double check it and correct anything that may be wrong.

Your about me info consists of your name, title, biography, location, industry, and photo. You can then add up to 5 “endorseable skills that define you as a professional.” These are what others will be ranking you on.

Add Skills and Get Endorsed on Path.to.

Underneath your skills you can connect your social networking accounts: Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google+ plus your own website and email. You can choose whether or not to display these on your profile. Underneath that is your work experience. For each position you can enter the company, title, skills uses, state date, and end date. Lastly there is your education, where you can list your school, degree, start date, and finish date.

Your profile can be customized using a premade theme or you can choose a theme and then customize it further.

Finally there is the dashboard, which is where you can see recent activity, today’s stats, and tips and tricks. Under the stats you’ll see a link to view your full analytics. If you would like to go a step further, you can even set up Google Analytics and enter the UA code in your Path.to settings for improved stats and analytics.

View Full Analytics on Path.to.

If you would like to see the final result of a Path.to profile, feel free to check out my profile.

What do you think of Path.to? Do you find it useful? Do you think it’s worth signing up for to get endorsements or is it easier to stick to something like LinkedIn recommendations?

Profiting with Content

Content helps drive traffic, boosts credibility and authority, and helps you build a community of followers. It can also help you increase your search engine ranking, and should provide valuable information for readers.

Content can also have an impact on your cash flow if done properly. Here are some simple ways you can profit with content.

1. Write reviews.

You can use content to generate affiliate commissions by writing good reviews on the products you’re promoting as an affiliate. Many people search online for quality reviews before they purchase a product. It helps them make an informed decision about the quality of the product and if it will be useful to them.

When people are reading reviews, they are already in a buying mode. They simply need compelling information to help them complete the sale. If you write a detailed review, from your personal perspective, they are more likely to purchase the product. Include your affiliate link so they can click through to buy the product.

There are several things to keep in mind when writing reviews. First of all, always be honest in your assessment of the product. Describe who the product is for, who it will benefit and also cover who it may not benefit. Also remember to mention anything negative about the product, things you didn’t like. Many people think that giving some negative points will hurt their review, but in truth it makes your review stronger. It shows you are being honest. The things you didn’t like may not even apply to the prospective buyer.

2. List Building.

Use email marketing as another avenue of making money. Give out a free report, an incentive for people to join your list. Make sure it is directly related to your content and the things you share and promote. This gives you another way to reach them and another way to promote affiliate products or your own products.

Never bombard your list with useless promotions or daily promotions. Only send out important content that you think they may find useful and valuable. However, you still need to be consistent with contacting your list. You can send out weekly tips or articles that you write specifically for your list. You do not need to attempt a sale in every email, but you do need to stay in touch with them. Show them you care and over deliver with valuable content.

When you do this, they are more likely to buy from you when you promote quality products.

3. Sell Ad Space

You can sell ad space on your blog or even in your newsletter. If you have a large list of followers, some advertisers will pay you so that they can reach your audience every week.

Make sure the ads are relevant to your list and your content. If you don’t have advertisers you can start with a Google ad and remove those as other sites start purchasing those ad slots.

4. Use Article Directories.

If you have your own product or service, you can use articles posted at directories to drive traffic to your sales page. Use the article as pre-sell material so when the prospect clicks the call to action in your bio, they are already wanting more information. This can increase your conversations from those click throughs.

5. Establish Authority with eBooks.

Ebooks are a great way to establish authority in your niche. If you’re extremely knowledgeable in a certain area, you can write an ebook for people to purchase.

You can sell your ebook from your own website, through Clickbank or you can even have it published on Kindle. This allows you to reach more people in your field.

Sales from ebooks not only boosts your income, but it can also increase traffic to your site which can give you future income,  more prospects to reach out to and help you profit with content.

There are many ways to use content as a means to increase sales. Implementing just a few of them can increase your popularity, your bottom line and establish your credibility. Try some of these methods, give them time to work and see if they don’t increase your income.

Another great thing about content is it can work for you for many years. You do the work once and it keeps working for you.

Steve Jobs – The Man, The Icon

Steve JobsSteve Jobs personified American exceptionalism. A college drop out that trusted his own instinct, Jobs went from obscurity to technological super star. He understood giving customers what they want is a way to build a successful company rather that trying to sell consumers a one-size-fits-all product. While Apple remains small in market share for personal computers, it profited the company more per unit than any other brand of PC.

Steven Paul Jobs was born in San Francisco, California on February 24, 1955. During his fifty six years, he became an icon among both the technology and business sectors.

After finishing high school, Steve Jobs went to Portland, Oregon to attend college at Reed College in 1972. He became bored with the curriculum quickly and dropped out after attending just one semester. He survived by getting free meals from a local Hare Krishna temple and returning soda bottles for the deposit money.

Jobs slept on the floor of a friends home and began attending meetings of the Homebrew Computer Club with Steve Wozniak, who would later become a co-founder of Apple. Jobs eventually landed a job at Atari, a video games and video game console manufacturer. He worked as a technician. Jobs left his position at Atari to travel to India. When he returned to the United States, he likewise returned to his job at Atari.

It was in 1976 that Steve Jobs co-founded Apple along with Ronald Wayne and Steve Wozniak. Apple went through several turbulent years. Then, in 1983, Jobs convinced Pepsi-Cola CEO John Sculley to join Apple. Jobs reportedly taunted John Sculley by asking him if he wanted to sell “sugar water” or come over to Apple to “change the world”.

In 1984, Apple aired its first Super Bowl ad and released its famed Macintosh computer. The Macintosh was an instant hit but began to fade from the technological scene by the early 1990s. In a twist of fate, John Sculley fired Jobs from his position at Apple. Jobs went on to found NeXT Computer. Though billionaire Ross Perot invested in the new company, it was a commercial flop.

Later, Jobs went on to buy The Graphics Group, which became Pixar in 1986. Jobs rejoined Apple in 1996 went his former company bought NeXT Computer. Jobs then replaced Gil Amelio, Apple’s CEO at the time.

Jobs worked on the next big offering from Apple. On October 23, 2001, Apple released the iPod. The portable media device was a hardware outlet for iTunes. The iPhone made its debut in 2007. In April 2010, the iPad was released. The tablet was a leap from traditional computing. Like the other Apple, the iPad was built to satisfy the customers.

Steve Jobs was first diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in 2004. He assured his employees his illness was less aggressive than normal pancreatic cancer and would fight to overcome the disease. Though Jobs would take a leave of absence from Apple, he eventually returned. In August of 2011, he announced his departure and Tim Cook would take over as CEO.

5 Hidden Places to Find Like Minded People Talking Internet Marketing

The two most powerful assets a marketer can posses are knowledge and connections.  These days much of that knowledge is discovered online and many of those connections are built on the Internet.

Beyond reading the popular blogs within your industry, most of the juiciest news and tactics may not be published in the open.  The best stuff is often shared within small online communities that most people aren’t even aware of.  If you’ve been learning everything you know from simply reading blogs you may be missing out.

As well, if your learning experience has been mostly passive, you are missing out on doubling your efforts and building a network of online contacts while you learn.  These online communities allow you to share and build your network, which can potentially be more valuable than any information you could learn.

To get you started, here are some places to find these hidden communities.

Forums

One of the oldest and most reliable ways that communities forms on the Internet is through forums.  Their simple and universal look and form makes it easy for anyone to pick up the conversation and become involved.

A great way to find forums is to simply search Google for the topic you are looking for and append “forum” at the end.  Once you find a few forums, you’ll want to check and see how many posts there are, how active the forum is, and of course, if the discussions on it meet your needs.  Here are a few of the best ones to get you started:

Web Master World

Warrior Forum

Blog Networks

Another exclusive group within Internet Marketing are the bloggers.  The popular bloggers within each niche read each others blogs, respond to articles they read, and share each others content to their readers (whether on their site or through the social media channels).  But there is also a lot of private emailing and such that goes on, and this is often where you can score some really good contacts and strategies.

This community does however have the steepest entry fee.  You have to make a blog, write really powerful articles on it regularly, and demonstrate that you are an avid follower of your fellow bloggers before you can even begin to think about breaking into that inner circle.  But once you have put enough time into your blog reach out, see if you can do a guest post or share a hot tip that you haven’t written about yet.

LinkedIn/Google/Facebook Groups

I think this group is really one that few people are taking advantage of.  And truly, by sharing this tip, I hope to only make these communities stronger and more useful.

LinkedIn Groups, Google Groups, and Facebook Groups are all community organizers that serve as a group discussion for industry professionals.  Simply log into each site and search around their groups section to find a group that shares your interests (for Facebook, simply use their search bar and start typing the industry name).  After joining the group you can have the discussion forwarded to your email so you are always in the loop.

You can also search around the web for other sites that host groups, but unless you find one that is really industry specific, the participation beyond the big three is often limited.

Trade Organizations

Most trade organizations that require some level of difficulty to join also have a private members email list.  These lists are possibly the most valuable in sharing information and understanding the concerns of the rest of the community.

With Internet Marketing, the main way to find organizations with good emails lists is to look to the trade shows.   Trade shows are usually the arm of an organization that is looking for members, and membership can often gain admittance to a private discussion list.  I’d ask before dropping a lot of money on membership if this is your goal however.

Reddit

Reddit has long been known as a news aggregator (which it is).  But is also home to some of the most active communities on the Internet.  You’ll have to learn the rules first (or the discussions you start might not see much traction), but once you do these communities can be warm and very informational.

For Internet Marketing here are a few “sub-Reddits” to get your started:

Reddit Marketing

5 Reasons Why Businesses Outsource

Both large, small and medium businesses outsource elements of their business from time to time. Those who are considering outsourcing instead of conducting all their business in-house could reap a variety of benefits.

1) Decreased Costs
Often, outsourcing a particular part of your business can substantially decrease costs. For example, a small business may choose to outsource their payroll as it is more cost-effective to use the services of a large company which can take advantage of greater economies of scale, than it is to employ a member off staff. Alternatively, large companies may choose to outsource their IT support or call centre facilities to a company that is based in a country with a cheaper cost of living and so get the same quality of service at a lower price.

2) Focus on Core Business
Many companies choose to outsource supporting elements of their operation so that they can focus their attention on improving their core business. A company may be happy to simply pay a defined fee for their IT or catering needs so that more resources and strategy can be targeted at their production and sales.

3) Access to Experts
Rather than attempt to hire and train highly-skilled members of staff in-house, it can be more effective for a company to access that level of expertise through an outside company. This removes the need for in-house management and understanding of the particular area, as well as enabling the company to draw on the expertise of far more individuals than they could potentially hire outright.

4) Access to Top-of the Line Technology
It does not make business sense to spend large amounts of money on capital investments that you do not use very often. However, you may still want to access this technology on occasion – indeed, it may even be vital. By using an outside company for these infrequent needs, a business can gain all the advantages of the latest technology without having to pay full price. The outside company is able to spread the cost of the equipment across various different clients, so that no one client need pay for the equipment or go without the benefits it brings.

5) Scalability
From time to time a business may require more or less of a particular service – for example, accountancy requires many more man-hours the closer it gets to tax season. In order to have the sufficient in-house personnel for the times of peak activity a company will either need to pay large amounts of overtime, employ and train temporary workers, or waste money the rest of the year on staff who do not have enough work to justify their salaries. By outsourcing those elements of the business which experience an ebb and flow in demand, the business can take advantage of the scalability inherent in outsourcing – paying for more services from the outside company when necessary, and scaling back on their service at other times.

Gimme Bar – A Fun Way to Collect Images, Videos, and Text from any Web Page

Gimme Bar is one of those tools that the more you play with it, the more useful you realize it is. It kind of reminds me of Amplify since it lets you grab parts of any Web page. However, Amplify is more social since it lets you share that content across the Web on numerous social networks. Gimme Bar is more about collecting parts of a Web page to tell a story or for private use, yet it has many useful features that make it very powerful and memorable.

All you need to get started is the bookmarklet or Chrome extension. Once you get either, you’ll be given a link to your library, which is where you can access your collections, profile, applications, and settings. You can also discover new public content from the people you’re fallowing and find other Gimme Bar users to connect with.

Gimme Bar BookmarkletThe library is a general overview of all of your collections. “Collections help you organize and tell stories with your content.” In your library you can search for specific collections, view each collection individually, and even sort your items by content type (images, videos, text, full pages).

Adding a new collection is as easy as clicking on “New Collection” and then entering a name and description. You can also create new collections when you add new content (see below). Collections can be edited and deleted as well as made public or private. Each collection has its own short URL and Twitter share button so that you can easy share them with the world.

From your profile you can see items that you’ve added to your collections. Public items can be added to your “Public Firehose” or a public collection that you create. Likewise, private items can be added to your “Private Stash” or a private collection that you create.

Gimme Bar Library

Adding items to your library. Once you click on the bookmarklet or browser button, you’ll see a bar at the bottom of the Web page you’re on. Hovering over the “Gimme the full page” button will change to “Public” and “Private” buttons. These are the buttons to use if you want to grab the full page that you’re on.

Add Items as Public or Private on Gimme Bar.

Once you click on the appropriate button, you’ll get a pop window where you can add a title, description, and tags for your item. You can also choose to add the item to a collection you already have or create a new one (as opposed to the “Public Firehose” or “Private Stash”). That collection can be either public or private as well.

Add Details to Your Items on Gimme Bar.

If you just want to add a video, image, link, or specific text from the Web page then Gimme Bar works a little differently. You would have to highlight and/or drag the item that you want down to the “Public Firehose” or “Private Stash” area. Once you do that, you’ll get the same popup as above in order to add more details to your item. All items will be grouped together and use the same details.

Grab Parts of a Page with Gimme Bar

From the settings you’ll be able to update your user settings (name, email, password) and connect Gimme Bar to your Dropbox account so that you can backup your library.

I’m sure there are other important details I’m leaving out, but you get the gist of it. Gimme Bar is definitely more than just a social bookmarking tool; it’s an organization tool for your favorite online content and an online storybook that can be shared with friends.

5 Tips to Creating a Thriving Web Agency

Web agencies help online and offline businesses expand. Many talented entrepreneurs have grown their business to include several employees or dedicated contractors that are available as needed. Here are 5 tips to running a successful web agency and makign sure that business loan is paid back and you are in healthy profit.

Services

Many web agencies do not firmly establish which services they are going to provide for clients. Having one or two specialized services that are in an area of expertise can make the web agency well known for the specialty. Make it easy for potential clients to make contact for quotes on projects. List prices can be for services that are easy to create, or do not take a lot of time.

Competitive Rates

Research what other web agencies are charging for similar services. There is no need to undersell services, due to being a new designer or being a new company. If good work can be produced, then it should be properly compensated for through current market rates. Rates that are too low may bring in undesirable customers.

Marketing Plan

When a business is created, most entrepreneurs have a business plan. The activities that produce income should be heavily marketed each week. These activities could include paying for local marketing campaigns for radio or television. Paying for pay per click ads, creating free videos that advertise services and writing press releases are all examples of activities that can be done consistently to bring in new customers and provide exposure for the business in the media.

Delegate Tasks

Write down the skills of everyone that works for the web agency. Delegate tasks based on who does what activity the best. Menial or time consuming tasks can be outsourced to freelancers online or to local professionals. Tasks that are not profitable, but must be done should be delegated. Examples are deep cleaning the office,

Manage Interruptions

Most web agencies have a certain amount of time each day where they can actually work on billable projects. Protect this time fiercely and unapologetic-ally. Someone else can answer incoming phone calls, check customer service emails, and talk to people that walk in without an appointment. Turning off the phone and focusing on work for set blocks of time can increase productivity levels and profits. New agencies that are short staffed may find it is easier to schedule time for returning phone calls, answering email, and requesting customers to make an appointment and keep the office door locked when working. There are call centers that can be hired to take telephone calls and take detailed messages and give out basic company information.

Take time to schedule how the day to day tasks will lead to the goals within the business plan. Use these five tips to running a successful web agency.

Business Planning for Small Business

What does it take to come up with that all-important business plan? More importantly, when looking to come up with that plan, what are the most pressing concerns for aspiring business owners? Well, when it comes to pursuing that new business venture, coming up with that plan starts with understanding the differences between goals, objectives and resources. Whilst most enterprises confuse these three criteria, others understand the differences and are able to provide a clear and definitive path to business success. Therefore, when coming up with your business plan, start first by establishing your ultimate goal, determine the individual objectives to attain that goal and then allocate your resources to attain your objectives. This all sounds relatively easy doesn’t it? Well, it’s not quite that simple. However, it can be made easier once you’ve clearly differentiated between these three essentials of business planning. So how is this done?

Every business plan must first start with a mission or vision statement. This includes defining where the company wants to go, how it wants to get there and its overall approach to growing its market share. Next, the plan should include a definition of the new venture’s core values. These values explain how the company will approach business and how that business will be conducted within the new venture’s market. These values are meant to guide employees and management on best business practices. From this point forward, the plan should move towards defining the company’s objectives relative to its goal, the strategies the company will adopt to achieve its objectives, and how the company will allocate its resources to enact its strategies. Whilst this all sounds involved, it really does boil down to defining those three aforementioned criteria.

• What are Goals?
The new business venture’s goals are meant to define the company’s ultimate purpose. In this case, view the company’s goals as broad in scope and far-reaching in their application.

• How do Objectives Differ from Goals?
When thinking of objectives, think of how companies use set periods to measure success or failure. Objectives are more specific in nature than goals. They are periodic points of measurement where the company can assess its progress to attaining its overall goals.

• Use Resources to Attain Objectives
A company’s resources include far more than just its employees and managers. It also includes company wide assets like equipment, machinery and business knowledge. Allocating resources to attain objectives is an essential part of business planning because it leads to proper asset utilization.

Using Quality Link Building Campaigns For Increased Page Traffic

With the use of internet as a business tool and by many people, making your presence known is of great importance. There is so much competition for the ranking of the websites such that one cannot just sit down and hope that something will happen in their favor. There must be sufficient link building campaigns as this is the only perfect way out for ranking highly on the search engines. You can benefit from the important links not only in getting the high ranks but also in getting a share of the natural visitors from the search engines to your own site. This will be helpful in enhancing your business online and only excellent and link building techniques will help you in this.

4 common mistakes to avoid in link building campaigns

As aforementioned, link building is the most effective method when it comes to the enhancement of your website ranking. But there are some common mistakes that you should avoid if your website is to gain this popularity with the search engines and other website surfers. Having many inbound and relevant links in your site will be of great help and needs your consideration.

The first common mistake in link building campaigns or any other link building campaign is to have pages that have no related information with your website link with your own. Investing heavily on link building without making sure that only the pages with related info are linked with your site will only be a waste of money and time and will cost you dearly. Don’t link your health related site with a site that deals with marine life or pets.Another mistake that many SEO companies make is the lack of correct keyword use in their anchor text. Keywords are more useful when it comes to link building and will work wonders more than mere “click here” texts.Another mistake that you should avoid in link building campaigns is that of building a link campaign with a webpage that has so many outbound links. This has no benefits when it comes to one-way link building as it will not help you to get the high ranking that you are interested in. in fact this might lead to total ignorance of your website by the search engines and they look at it as a farm.In addition to the aforementioned mistakes, people also place their links in the wrong place such as in the footer and this normally denies the page the required weight. Your link should be placed in a position where it will help increase the click probabilities.

4 useful tips for link building

When working on your link building campaigns, ensure that you have valuable content in your website so as to enhance the chances of link backs by the readers. This works as a bait for the other websites.Make use of article directory submissions as a web marketing strategy.Maintain fresh updates on your website and keep the blogs with keyword richness but within the emphasis of your services or products. Finally, make use of the established social media sites to help in the achievement of high search engine listings through the back links you get.

These are some of the useful tips that you can make use of among many others available for link building campaigns. Remember like any other business, you will need to invest time and money.

5 Ways to Give Your Customers What They Care About

happy customersOne of the easiest ways to build stronger relationships with existing customers and attract more customers is to give people what they care about. While that may sound like a no-brainer, most companies don’t capitalize on all of their opportunities to provide what their customers actually care about.

If you want to improve your business, you need to appeal to current and potential customers. And if you’re not sure what your customers want, they care about:

Getting Help When They Need It

When customers visit your website, you may assume that they’re going to be able to find exactly what they need. However, this may not be the case. If a customer is unable to find something, they want someone to help them find it right then. Not receiving any help means they’re going to get frustrated and leave your site.

A Live Chat solution is a great way to provide the type of instant help people want. While windows that pop-up everywhere can be more annoying than useful, solutions like Olark that put a simple bar at the bottom of your website can give customers the opportunity to contact you if that’s what they want.

Talking to a Real Person (Who’s Friendly)

This not only ties into Live Chat, but also email. While customers want help when they encounter a problem, this doesn’t mean they want a vague canned response. Instead, they want to actually talk to someone who can understand their problem and provide a solution that works.

Because people are so used to businesses all but ignoring them, being friendly can go a long way. In addition to putting a real person on the other end of Live Chat sessions or emails, you should also put a phone number on your website. Although some businesses hesitate to do so, customers will be reassured by knowing they can pick up the phone and speak with you.

Receiving Value

Your customers work hard for their money. As a result, they want to be confident that they’re getting good value by spending it.

Because you believe in your product or service, you already know it’s a good value. However, customers aren’t in this position. As a result, you need to use your marketing to convey the value. By using techniques like price anchoring, where you increase the appeal of what you’re offering by comparing it to other prices, you can demonstrate the value you have to offer.

Convenience

Your customers want all of their interactions with you to be as convenient as possible. One of the best ways to ensure this always happens is to use a CRM system. By always having access to what you need to know about customers, you’ll be able to deliver what they want, when they want it.

A Simple Finish

If you get all the other steps right, don’t sabotage that effort by overly complicating the buying process. Even if you’re not an e-commerce site, you can learn a lot by looking at how simple Amazon has made it to complete a purchase.

Craig Klein is the creator of Sales Nexus which is an online CRM provider that also offers business email marketing solutions.

Microsoft ‘Skypes’ to say Hello to G-talk

It’s funny when you see the modern technological wars being fought over mergers, acquisitions and takeover bids. It appears nobody wants to be left behind and in what could be considered a race for the tech-giant position, Microsoft does not want to leave anything behind. To some, Microsoft, Google and Apple would look like a one big family whose members are at way with each other to get the biggest Santa gift this Christmas.

If you have been following Microsoft lately, it does appear that the company is pretty aggressively pitching itself in the global technology market to establish itself in a position that will help redeem the lost turf from Google. It’s recent acquisitions of Yahoo search engine (not so new acquisition, but a strategic acquisition worthy of a mention in this post), and an alliance with Nokia can be seen in this direction and its latest acquisition of Skype for $ 8.5 b is another step towards adding a competing product against Google’s G-talk.

So, with its latest round of acquisitions, Microsoft aspires to unsettle a few competitors. For one, it hopes to challenge search engine supremacy of Google with the availability and consolidation of Yahoo and Bing under one company. However, September’s analysis of web traffic suggests that both Bing and Yahoo account for less than half of the organic search traffic when you compare it against Google.

Its second major alliance happened with Nokia, and the intent was clearly to present a challenge to the Android and iPhone platforms. I would consider this a delayed reaction to the success of Android, that has displaced Apple as the largest selling smartphone platform in the world.

Finally, we now have Skype being bought over. With the European Commission authorizing the acquisition, it is clear that Microsoft will be looking forward to Skype as a means to counter G-talk. In this race, Microsoft would seem well on the right path because Skype is definitely a preferred business communication medium across the world. It had 663 million subscribers in March 2011, and it had 8.8 million regular paying consumers. I bet that these numbers would appear comfortably ahead of  the total number of Google gtalk subscribers.

The challenge will lie in the next few months when we hope to see a flawless integration between Microsoft and Skype. Until now, Skype has consistently achieved double-digit growth and aside from the branding exercise, we need to see what value can Microsoft bring to the table in a bid to boost the overall revenue from Skype. We have seen the Yahoo acquisition and its subsequent sacrificial role in the search market in favour of establishing Bing as the main competitor to Google. For that matter, we feel that the alliance with Nokia gave Microsoft a face-saver in the Android Vs IPhone and Android vs Blackberry war.

Considering these facts, Skype is a one-proven winner that has everything going right as of now. It has the largest presence in the world, and it has a healthy revenue mark to claim commercial success. It is evolving quickly to adopt the changing scenarios being afforded in the mobile commerce market and its decision making is crisp and fast to make an impact in the global communications market.

However, it remains to be seen, if Microsoft can accept Skype in its dominant role and form or whether Skype will eventually end up being a sacrificial brand under the bigger ambit of Microsoft. I hope I am proved wrong, but time will tell.

4 Unique Ways to Drive Traffic to Your Blog

uniqueTraffic is the currency of the web. Not just any traffic, but high quality traffic.

If you’ve been reading any marketing blog for anything more than a week now you would have come across an article or two giving you tips on how to drive traffic to your blog. Many of these articles talk about various common means to generate traffic, and some of them can be as long or short as possible. There are even articles that list as much as 101 ways to generate traffic. The problem with many of these articles is that due to the fact that the tips in these articles are starting to become very common, a lot of new bloggers want more unique ways to drive traffic to their blogs. Mind you, I’m not saying the tactics listed in any of these kind of articles don’t work; in most cases, they do! If you’re looking for more unique ways to drive traffic to your blog this article will be giving you 4 unique ways to drive traffic to your blog. Some of them you might not have heard, and some of them you might be familiar with, but these tactics are yet to be blogged to death, and by implementing them you can easily get some cool results for your blog.

One of the most common ways to drive traffic to your blog is by making use of blogger groups or tribes. In most cases, these tribes consist of a group of bloggers with the same goal, interested in sharing their audience to help each other get better results. In other words, if there are 100 people in a group with 900 Twitter followers each, every member will share the post of each other with their followers, and combined, that means the message of a single member will be able to reach up to 90,000 Twitter followers. There are a lot of groups online where this is done manually, but one great website that has automated this, and that has a great user base already, is Triberr.

Another way you can get traffic to your blog is by making use of social blogmarking sites. The word “blogmarking” might be new to you, but it’s just like another form of social bookmarking site, just that this time, the site focuses on blogs only instead of general websites. There are a lot of social blogmarking sites online with great support for bloggers, and the two popular ones I can recommend is Blokube (which I’m a moderator of) and Blog Engage.

You can also get traffic to your blog by making use of blogging aggregators. Most of these aggregators try to be the best source of information online on any subject. While they don’t provide detailed articles on any subject, they link to the latest, or the best, articles on the blogs in their index. In most cases, your blog needs to meet their criteria to be accepted, but if you are, they can be a cool source of traffic to you.

Two great examples of blog aggregators are Alltop and Before Its News.

One thing about the internet is that there are so many big and highly respected sites that are focused on providing quality information to their users on various subjects. In most cases, some of these sites allow their users to contribute or edit information on them, and they also require the person contributing or editing the articles to include a link to the source of their information. There are a lot of these kind of websites online that we ignore. For example, take a look at Wikipedia or Yahoo Answers. You can easily contribute to any of these sites, and if necessary, include a link to an highly informative page on your blog that verifies your information in the reference section.

Bad Content Finding Its Way Into Mobile Apps and RIM Owes Big

There’s always a good side to things and a bad side and that includes the ever-expanding world of mobile apps. A recent news article in the Washington Post talks about inappropriate content finding its way into mobile apps that are geared towards children. Violent and suggestive content are the culprits here and parents are complaining they don’t have any real way to monitor what their kids are exposed to.

The Federal Communications Commission keeps an eye on more traditional forms of media but as far as mobile apps are concerned, developers are still in charge of giving themselves ratings. More fodder for those who say it’s the parent’s responsibility to stay on top of what their children see and do.

As you might expect, recent reports are saying that RIM could owe tons of cash to right the fallout from their recent outages. The recent numbers are $100 million US in lost revenues and there’s more to it than that, none of which is good for the Canadian company that was the biggest hope that country had since the Avro Arrow.

Making the problem worse for RIM is the fact that wireless carriers worldwide have promised to compensate their users for the downtime. The whole mess couldn’t have come at a worse time for the beleaguered company and worst case scenarios for the estimated 70 million users worldwide put refunds to 35 million as the number bantered.

The whole Blackberry mess has some interesting spinoffs when it comes to how people deal with even the temporary loss of this kind of technology. Consider a recent article from a New Jersey professional who writes that people should know someone they can call in their office to check emails on their computer there when the BlackBerry network goes down. The article goes on to point out the obvious fact that you can send a text, but I think something even more relevant is being missed here.

Maybe the whole idea of having a Blackberry is overkill and being constantly hooked up to emails 24/7 from a device that you carry around with you is a case of too much technology. I mean, how many people can really do anything about even the most urgent email until they get back to the office anyway? I’m not talking out of school here because I have one and I find myself constantly looking for the little red light that tells me I’ve got mail like one of Pavlov’s dogs. I have to admit too, I did get a little nervous when my emails weren’t getting through regularly but I’ve still got to wonder if we all don’t need some kind of safe zone away from all of these things once in a while.

Freelance Writer Job and Career Description

Freelance writers are writers for hire. They aren’t actually employed by a specific company; instead, they work on various projects from a variety of sources. In a sense, they run their own businesses with their writing skills being the product offered for sale.

Freelance writers find that potential clients are everywhere. Virtually every magazine found on supermarket shelves is filled with submissions from freelance writers. Newspapers often run feature stories written by freelance writers. Textbooks, encyclopedias, and other reference books are commonly filled with the work of freelance writers. In addition, some publishers hire writers to work on books for a specific project under development.

Two other lucrative areas for freelancers are business writing and technical writing. Businesses of all kinds and sizes often hire freelance writers to work on projects such as proposals, speeches, annual reports, newsletters, brochures, and other publications. Some freelance writers work exclusively for public relations firms; advertising agencies, in particular, will use experienced writers to help with various projects. This way the agency handles the marketing aspects of finding clients, and the writer focuses on pleasing the client with well crafted written materials.

Technical writers are currently in big demand to translate software programs and other complicated documents into instructions that just about anyone can understand. Technical writing isn’t for everyone. Sometimes the work requires a writer to have very specialized technical knowledge as well as top notch writing skills.

Although the pay isn’t always quite as good, some freelance writers specialize in working with nonprofit organizations and charities. The ability to write clear and convincing grant proposals is a hot commodity among agencies that depend on funds from foundations and benevolent corporations for their support.

Instead of receiving a salary like an employee or royalties like an author, freelancers are generally paid a flat fee. There is a big gap between low end and top end fees: some projects pay as little as a few cents per word, while others pay a generous hourly rate, and still others, on a per-project basis.

Just like other independent business people, freelance writers must spend a good portion of their time marketing their services. This generally involves plenty of research, lots of good ideas, and many letters. The most successful freelancers take a very businesslike approach to their writing and are careful to market their services in a very professional manner. They don’t wait for business to come to them. Instead they are constantly seeking out writing assignments from a variety of interesting sources.

It is quite common for freelance writers to start out writing part time in addition to holding down another job. They continue to moonlight as writers until they’ve built up the experience and clientele to maintain a steady income from their writing.

More than anything else, it’s a freelance writer’s way with words that keeps the writing assignments coming. Writing well is the only credential that counts; however, education and experience can be the keys to opportunities for freelance writers to prove their skills. Most people who succeed as freelancers have a college background in fields such as liberal arts, communications, or journalism, and have gained experience working as a journalist, public relations writer, or editor. Writers with an entrepreneurial sense of adventure and deep reserves of creative ideas may find their future in freelance writing.

Using Social Media in Your Content Marketing

Content marketing is one of the most important and effective marketing tactics you can use. Content drives visitors to your website, so it makes sense to blend your content marketing efforts with your social media efforts for a more powerful strategy.

Here are some tips to integrate your content marketing and social media efforts.

Linking to your content with social media. Every time you publish something, you should link to it from your social media accounts. You can test to see if a catchy headline grabs more attention in social media or if you should use a short paragraph to get them interested. You may even want to pose it in the form of a question with a link back to the content that answers the question.

There are several ways to get attention. See which one works best for your followers or use a mixture.

Use social media buttons on your site. There are many plug-ins that you can add to integrate social media buttons within each blog post. One of my favorites is Sexy Bookmarks. It’s very easy to use and has many options you can set.

Using a call to action in your signature can also entice people to share your content. You can add something like, “If you like this content, please share it with others.”

Article marketing is another great way to drive traffic to your site. Be sure to add some social media links in your bio so that people can find you and start following you.

Publish articles on social media sites. Places like Facebook will allow you to publish quite a bit of content. If you have a personal page, can publish these as notes. Check all of your social media sites to see how much content you can post. Twitter only allows 140 characters, but it can be used to link to longer content.

Content is not only a great way to market yourself but it’s also a great way to grow your social media connections. You can choose to drive people to an opt in page, an About Me page or a page that lists where they can find you on social networks. The possibilities with content are endless.

Adding social media to your efforts only enhances your marketing efforts. Make sure you integrate your content marketing and social media efforts. Always get the best possible use out of your content and strive to make it work for you. Implementing social media is just one way to attract more attention.

Also remember to integrate your current marketing plan with new ideas and strategies. Start by planning your content and your social media endeavors so they can work together.

Google more

Plu Google is the new social media site, developed by the search engine giant, Google. However, unlike other social media sites, like Google is slightly different.

To begin, Facebook, Youtube and Twitter posts, updates and other not really shared media shows not in search engine results. Similar and thumbs up button works strictly in their respective social media sites. This is not the case with more than Google. 1 Plu button operates not only in Google, and more, it also helps search engine to refine its search algorithm.

For example, positions and content with more multiple diaryléther will be more likely to appear on the first page of Google than other relevant sites with no diaryléther more.

What Google and characteristics?

The last point is beneficial for the online marketing specialists, but what about casual users? Many people do not care if their posts appear in the search engine; they do not have a personal site to promote. There is also benefits for casual users, as well.

The functionality of circles is a rich application that allows users to separate their friends in specific groups. In addition, before you publish an update or share content, they can select what they want to be able to see the post circles. This allows users to preserve their respective confidentiality; Some people do not want their employers to see what they post on social media sites.

However, currently, it is not a good way to share things directly with friends, as a feature of the wall. Google said that they add even more features, so that there should be a way to directly share with friends in the near future.

Facebook is a site of the power plant. Mark Zuckerburg has been in the game long; social media it knows what works with people and what doesn't. In addition, he is also a few important changes to Facebook to make deeper and more comprehensive experience for users.

Google more ' simplicity perhaps to appeal to many people who are not happy with changes in Facebook. In addition, the layout of the site is very eye-catching - many people like social media sites that are attractive.

How PPC Campaign Works to Get Traffic for your Website

Pay per click (PPC) is an internet marketing campaign that is designed to attract targeted customers to your website. There are various other techniques that plays important roles in the vast field of internet marketing but PPC is one that I know well! Some people feel that running a PPC campaign alone is enough to get users to their website and have a successful business. I personally think it is a bad idea to just run PPC. People should start running other campaigns such as search engine optimization, social media marketing, etc to get good rankings and have a successful website.  Here is a little teaser on getting PPC traffic to your website.  Also, top comment below will receive a code for $100 if free Google Adwords PPC traffic to your site.

How to Set Up a Successful PPC Program

A PPC campaign is an easy way to bring targeted customers to your website. But it takes a lot of time to make the campaign a success. There is a lot of trial and error method involved in the process. It is important to optimize your content of the advertisement so that users click on it. The optimization of PPC campaign works in three distinct steps

Keywords: Firstly, you need to come up with the keywords which suit your website well and sign up for a PPC cost program. Only then your advertisements will crop up in the first page of the search engine result page. You need to keep analyzing and find out which keywords work best for you.Ad content: Each advertisement will have a unique message stated below the website name. Optimize the content well so that users get the information they need. You should try and minimize the number of words as much a possible because users do not have much time to read through lengthy content. They might be side tracked by other websites content. You only have two seconds to catch the user’s attention. So minimize the content length and explain about your website. If you are not good with content editing, you may need to recruit professionals to come up with this particular piece of information to have a successful PPC campaign.Landing page: Landing page is nothing but the web page the user lands on when they click on the advertisements. Many advertisers give their home page as landing page but creating a separate landing page is important to have a successful PPC campaign. When a user lands in the homepage, they are lost and have no clue what to do next, they may leave. It will unnecessarily increase your bounce rate. Create a landing page that gives the user some information about the website in a short and precise manner. Then give a link of your home page. This will help in reducing your bounce rate and help you in converting visitors to your customers.

How Important is PPC in Online Marketing

I believe that only 30% of your website visitors should be brought to your site through your PPC campaigns.  That being said, you shouldn’t let this deter you if you’re getting 60% of your website visitors through PPC cause it can be one of the best ways to get targeted traffic while you work on other things like SEO. PPC shouldn’t be ignored because it gives a head start in your marketing campaign. When you start a website, the ranking gained through other online marketing techniques are not enough to have decent amount of traffic. A PPC campaign will bring in target users to your website that are searching for what you have.

FREE Is The Future of Business

Free BlogRight now I am reading a book by Chris Anderson called “Free – The Future of A Radical Price”.  You can find this on iTunes for FREE.  You can also search Google and find it pretty quick. Chris Anderson is Wired magazine’s editor in chief and gives us a glimpse of why the cost of doing business online is falling closer and closer to zero.  I really like how this has helped me with everything I am doing online.  The best way to get people online is to give them something free.  You see this on all the top blogs you read, top sites you visit and pretty much everywhere online.

In Free, Anderson breaks down the priceless economy into six broad categories, demonstrating how to make money in each:

- “Freemium”: Free Web software and services, and some content, to users of the basic version. (Think Flickr and the $25-a-year Flickr Pro.)

- Advertising: Free content, services, and software to an audience that advertisers will pay to reach.

- Cross-subsidies: Give away any product that entices customers to pay for something else. Example: It’s a free second-gen Wii! But only if you buy the deluxe version of Rock Band.

- Zero marginal cost: Anything that can be distributed without an appreciable cost to anyone, like online music.

- Labor exchange: Performing tasks to gain access to “free” sites and services.

- Gift economy: From Freecycle (free secondhand goods) to Wikipedia, money isn’t the only motivator.

Always give Away Something FREE

Your readers want to know that you care about them, so why not give them something free.  Not only does this show your reader that you’re giving them something free that has taken you a lot of time and effort, you also show them that you care about them.  This will inspire trust. This will give you more credibility.  This will break down the barrier that is between you and their information to re-market to them.

How Does Free Work?

Free breaks down the barrier between you and your readers.  If you are selling an eBook and you charge even $.01 you may get a small percentage of readers to purchase your product. But if you give it away for free you will quickly see that your numbers will increase, you’ll get more subscribers, and your blog will be more popular. People love something free, they don’t even think about it.  It makes it so they don’t have to think about the decision; it’s free, why not?

What Do I Give Away For Free?

Give away anything and everything. Just kidding, don’t get yourself into trouble.  I would personally go with what Zac Johnson, John Chow, and many others have done in the blogging space and give away an eBook.  An eBook is a great way to gain your readers trust while getting them to subscribe to your blog.  Use a service like aWeber to keep track and distribute your eBook.  It will keep track of your readers and let you email market to them in the future.  This will allow you to make money off your readers in the long run and keep them coming back to your blog consistently.  Make sure when you’re giving away something free that you don’t give away crap.  Giving away something free that is horrible will cause a bad taste in your readerships mouth.  Bad press travels much more quickly then good press.  If you put something crappy together and give it away for free it will damage your reputation.

I encourage all of you to read Chris Anderson’s book “Free – The Future of A Radical Price”  It will change your world and help you to understand free a lot more than you think.  It will help you realize how Google can give away 99.999% of it’s products for FREE and still make Billions Profit each year.  Please let me know below if you have read the book or have any questions.  I would love to help you out with and Blogging Tips that I have!
